My great-great-great Grandfather, John Layden, came to America from Ireland in the mid 1840's. He was born in 1801 in Country Clare, Ireland and died in 1875, in Indiana, USA. He came to America because of the potato famine. He married Margaret Stammer in 1834, in Clare, Ireland. One of his children was name Tade Layden. Tade acquired land in Illinois that our family still owns and farms. We have had that land since the 1800's. Willem Zook's relatives have land near the land that we have. John Layden came through Ellis Island. My Grandma is the daughter of Edward Layden. Edward was the fifth of six children of Tade. The brother of Edward Layden was Ted Layden. Ted died in World War I, at sea. My grandma, Agnes Layden, grew up on the farmland in Illinois that Tade Layden owned. I have been on that farmland too. The wife of Edward Layden was my great grandmother, Cornelia Fitzgerald, who was born in 1894 in Illinois. Her father was Cornelius Fitzgerald, who was born in 1840, in Limerick Ireland. Cornelius's father, John Fitzgerald, had 10 children in Ireland during the potato famine. He and one of the children died in Ireland so John's wife, Mary Catherine McCarthy, took the other nine children to America, arriving in New Orleans in 1851. Cornelius fought in the American Civil War and lost his leg in Pine Bluff Arkansas. His brother Patrick died in the war in 1863.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellis_Island
